I joined as one of the principals in April 2005 after spending seventeen years at Bentley Jennison, a large Birmingham city centre practice.

After spending such a long time at a large practice I felt it was right to focus my time dealing more closely with my clients. Making the move has allowed me to devote more time to dealing personally with them, and reduce their annual accounting costs.

I have extensive experience providing commercial, accounting and taxation advice to small businesses, and their owners in many different sectors. However, I have particular expertise in the following sectors:

  • Recruitment
  • Haulage
  • Catering (Restaurants, takeaways and public houses)
  • Construction

I work hard to gain an understanding of their businesses, and the ambitions and expectations of the individuals behind them. This provides me with a platform to offer practical commercial, accounting and taxation advice which is relevant, and tailored to each businesses needs.

I have worked for various firms of Chartered Accountants and over the years and have gained a great deal of experience in auditing, accounts preparation, forecasting and management accounts together with tax planning, business start ups, mergers and the sale of businesses.

My main objective is to get involved with my client’s business, which allows me to understand their needs and to focus on areas that are relevant to them and their businesses.

I live in Astwood Bank, Worcestershire with my wife Debby. I am a keen walker and each year I set myself a challenge of completing one of the UK’s long distance paths.

I have worked for various firms of Chartered Accountants gaining experience within the SME sector. As a general practitioner, I have experience of a variety of businesses from start up ventures to companies with turnover in excess of £30 million. These businesses cover a diverse range of industry sectors.

I have attended numerous technical and consultancy courses and use this knowledge in advising my clients to become more successful and profitable.

I believe that listening to, and identifying my clients goals and aspirations is vital in delivering to them the level of service that they expect.


I am married to Allyson with two teenage children. In my spare time I enjoy watching and attending football and rugby matches, and walking. I am a member of the parents association of King Edwards VI Five Ways and a previous governor of a St Francis Church Of England Primary School.

Russell Mallen | Director – Boden Piper Limited

Russell joined Boden Leighton & Co in 1986 and stayed with the company for 24 years. In 2010 the business was acquired by Malcolm Piper & Company Limited, and Russell took on the role of director of the newly formed company, Boden Piper Limited.

The practice specialises in the provision of management accounting and offers a full “back office” accounting function. Russell therefore works very closely with his client base dealing with their day to day financial requirements.

In addition, he has considerable experience in relation to company start ups, raising finance, financial forecasting and the turnaround of failing businesses.

Russell’s objective is to give his clients the financial information they need in order to run their businesses efficiently and profitably.
