  • Senior / Assistant Manager, 1987 - 1993
  • Business Services Manager, 1993 - 2003
  • Director, 2003 - 2005

Profile

I joined as one of the principals in April 2005 after spending seventeen years at Bentley Jennison, a large Birmingham city centre practice.

After spending such a long time at a large practice I felt it was right to focus my time dealing more closely with my clients. Making the move has allowed me to devote more time to dealing personally with them, and reduce their annual accounting costs.

I have extensive experience providing commercial, accounting and taxation advice to small businesses, and their owners in many different sectors. However, I have particular expertise in the following sectors:

  • Recruitment
  • Haulage
  • Catering (Restaurants, takeaways and public houses)
  • Construction

I work hard to gain an understanding of their businesses, and the ambitions and expectations of the individuals behind them. This provides me with a platform to offer practical commercial, accounting and taxation advice which is relevant, and tailored to each businesses needs.

I am a general practioner with the ability to advise on all aspects of business.

My “hands on” approach with clients has resulted in a trusted advisor status with many clients for whom I have acted as a partner being with me for more than 20 years and who have followed me through each practice change.

Career

  • TMF Global Services (UK) – Private Client Services Advisor 2014 - 2017
  • Inspire Professional Services – Tax Advisor, 2017 - 2020
  • Tomkinson Teal - Tax Manager, 2020 – 2021

Profile

I studied accounting and finance from school through to university, and specialised in tax very early on in my career. Let’s face it, everyone has to do the compliance side of tax, but I find by providing a little more than ‘just compliance’ can help clients feel at ease with their self- assessments (and maybe have a few tax savings along the way!). I also have extensive experience in more specific tax planning/compliance, such as:

  • Residential Property Capital Gains tax (60-day reporting)
  • Let Property Campaign disclosures
  • Reports for Inheritance tax planning
  • Dividend vs salary analysis
  • Capital Gains tax reports for separation/divorce

Personal

My husband and I set ourselves an adrenaline filled challenge each year, anything from climbing Snowdon to bungee jumping, to raise money for Infant & Children’s charities. Any ideas are welcome! We have two Golden (wild) Cocker Spaniels so up for anything outdoorsy. I have a creative streak that is channelled through creating personalised memorabilia and keepsakes for friends, family and charities. Formula One is my go-to sport, but I’m happy to watch (or partake!) in most sporting events.

Career

  • RSM Bentley Jennison / RSM Tenon / RSM (UK)
  • Audit Junior to Senior Audit Manager November 1987 – June 2015
  • Tomkinson Teal
  • Manager June 2015 – March 2020
  • Malcolm Piper & Company Limited
  • Senior Manager April 2020 – to date

Profile

My career began working for a single owner practice. As his first employee, I gained hands on experience in preparing VAT returns, manually calculating salaries, preparing accounts from incomplete records and undertaking audits. I moved to the Audit department of a bigger practice in Birmingham which, through a series of acquisitions, became a top ten international accountancy practice. During my nearly 30 years with them, I progressed from Audit Junior to Senior Audit Manager. I joined Malcolm Piper as Senior Manager in 2020.

I have worked with many of our current clients for a number of years. I can think of no better recommendation to new clients than seeing existing clients choose to move practices so they can continue to work with you. In my experience, clients appreciate my “hands on” approach. I look to formulate solutions to clients’ everyday problems in a “down to earth” practical manner, drawing on the experience that I have gained over 35 years.

My experience includes: audit and accounting for owner managed businesses, pensions, not for profit organisations and legal practices.

Personal

Following two years of theological training, I was licensed as a Licensed Lay Minister (Reader) in 2020. This allows me to preach and conduct services in the Church of England. I am Trustee for a couple of charitable organisations, allowing me the opportunity to see charities from the Trustees perspective.
