Profile

After leaving school in 1964 I embarked on a career in hotel management. After approximately four years, and somewhat disillusioned, I switched to accountancy and joined Harmood Banner & Co. in Liverpool, qualifying with them in 1973.

I then joined Whinney Murray at their office in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and enjoyed two and a half fascinating years working and traveling in the Middle East, before returning to the UK to join Furmanite International Ltd as their European Financial Controller, based in Cumbria.

My time with Furmanite involved a lot of travel into Europe, the Middle East and to the USA. Having gained a wife and family I decided to move into private practice, initially working from home. Then, as the business developed we moved to offices in Great Barr before moving to our present location in 2001.

Since my partners joined in 2005 the firm has seen significant growth The injection of new blood, expertise and skills have enabled us to offer our clients a broader and more extensive range of services in this ever changing financial environment.

Since 2006 I have scaled back my involvement, but retain my principal responsibility for the firm’s audit function.

Personal

I am married to Sue, who worked for the practice for many years and have two grown up children. In addition to traveling to visit friends and countries, my spare time is taken up with various charitable activities, gardening, choral singing and the occasional long distance walk.

Profile

I joined Malcolm Piper and Company as one of its principals in April 2005 after spending seventeen years at Bentley Jennison, a large Birmingham city centre practice.

After spending such a long time at a large practice I felt it was right to focus my time dealing more closely with my clients. Making the move has allowed me to devote more time to dealing personally with them, and reduce their annual accounting costs.

I have extensive experience providing commercial, accounting and taxation advice to small businesses, and their owners.

I work hard to gain an understanding of their businesses, and the ambitions and expectations of the individuals behind them. This provides me with a platform to offer practical commercial, accounting and taxation advice which is relevant, and tailored to each businesses needs.

Profile

I have worked for various firms of Chartered Accountants and over the years and have gained a great deal of experience in auditing, accounts preparation, forecasting and management accounts together with tax planning, business start ups, mergers and the sale of businesses.

My main objective is to get involved with my client’s business, which allows me to understand their needs and to focus on areas that are relevant to them and their businesses.

My client portfolio covers a wide range of businesses including engineering, jewellery manufacturer, insurances brokers, food wholesalers, construction and also a flying club.

Personal

I live in Astwood Bank, Worcestershire with my wife Debby. I am a keen walker and each year I set myself a challenge of completing one of the UK’s long distance paths.

Profile

I have worked for various firms of Chartered Accountants gaining experience within the SME sector. As a general practitioner, I have experience of a variety of businesses from start up ventures to companies with turnover in excess of £30 million. These businesses cover a diverse range of industry sectors.

I have attended numerous technical and consultancy courses and use this knowledge in advising my clients to become more successful and profitable.

I believe that listening to, and identifying my clients goals and aspirations is vital in delivering to them the level of service that they expect.

Personal

I am married to Allyson with two teenage children. In my spare time I enjoy watching and attending football and rugby matches, and walking. I am a member of the parents association of King Edwards VI Five Ways and a previous governor of a St Francis Church Of England Primary School.
